3rd PLMF Vocal Contest 16th of March – 1st of April 2017 dedicated to the early deceased tenor Vello Jürna

The Contest will be held in two different categories:
the NATIONAL VOCAL CONTEST and the NORDIC-BALTIC VOCAL CONTEST (incl RUSSIA)

Registration for the National Vocal Contest has ended! We thank all the participants and wish them good luck!

16 March – the National Vocal Contest 1st round (with piano accompaniment)

11.00 a.m. – Registration of the participants (first age group), draw of performance order
12.00 a.m. – 1st round in cooperation with Klaudia Taev International Vocal Competition

NB! The 1st round of the Nordic-Baltic Vocal Contest will take place based on SOUND RECORDINGS,
we ask you to register through the link below and send/bring a RECORDING of 1 operatic aria and 1 lied by 19th of March (18.03 last date for posting) to the address plmf@plmf.ee or Tallinn 10149, Paldiski mnt 26-17,
after which the jury will announce the participants who will get to the II round by 21th of March the latest

NB! In cooperation with Tallinn Music Week, international artist managers for opera singers
as well as casting advisors from different countries will also listen to the 2nd round (30.03) and Finale (1.04) of the Contest.

2. Prizes:
First age group (National Vocal Contest)
(open to citizens of Estonia and for foreigners living permanently or studying in Estonia):
I prize – 2000 EUR and an automatic participation in the 2nd round
of the Klaudia Taev International Competition for Opera Singers

II prize – 1500 EUR  
III prize – 1000 EUR

Second age group (Nordic-Baltic Vocal Contest)
(open to singers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Russia):
I prize – 2000 EUR
II prize – 1500 EUR  
III prize – 1000 EUR

Special prizes:

* The special prize of the PLMF Music Trust –
all the finalists of the first age group will get a three day master class after the competition (2. – 4. April)
which is conducted by the members of the jury
* The special prize of Vello Jürna’s family
* The special prize of the Baltic Film and Media School
* The special prize of AS Azko Nobel worth 500 €
* The special prize of NO Estonia
* The special prize of Theatre Vanemuine
*The special prize of Eesti Kontsert

3. Repertoire: 

I round   1 operatic aria
1 lied of free choice (advisably two different characters)
II round  1 aria from oratorio
1 operatic aria (different from I round)
1 lied of free choice (different from I round)
Finale    2 operatic arias (different from I and II round, one from an Italian operatic repertoire)

 

* The chosen repertoire must include works in at least 3 different languages
* The first two rounds of the National Vocal Contest will take place with piano accompaniment and the finale on the 1st of April as well as the Opera Gala with Pärnu City Orchestra, cond. Erki Pehk
* The 2nd round and the Finale of the Nordic-Baltic Vocal Contest will take place with piano accompaniment, as well as the performance of the winners on the 1st of April at 7 p.m. in Estonia Concert Hall
* For using the concert master for the performances of the I round 15 EUR must be payed
* For the preparation of the program of the 2nd round and finale the competitors will be able to use the concert master up to 30 minutes for free; additional rehearsal time will be possible for additional fee with an agreement with the concert master

Additional information:

– All compositions must be performed by heart
– It is not possible to change the chosen compositions later on
– The jury has the right to stop the performance of the competitor before the set time limit or if the time limit is exceeded and make other changes in order to conduct the competition in a better way, the decision of the jury is final
– The competitor will be responsible for having the necessary notes for the compositions (excluding the notes for the orchestra for the finals)
– It is advisable for the competitors to perform with their concertmasters
– If the competitor does not comply with regulations of the competition either intentionally or in some other way then he/she will be disqualified
– The rounds of the competition are open to audience and to radio and television if possible, the competitors will not be compensated for interviews, television and radio broadcasts or recordings
– The finalists in both age groups will be given 20-30 minutes rehearsal time each on the day of the Finale in Estonia Concert Hall

 

CONTEST RULES:

1. Contest will take place in two age groups:
I age group (National Vocal Contest in cooperation with Klaudia Taev International Contest)
the competition is open to citizens of Estonia and to foreigners living permanently or studying in Estonia:
– men who are born after 1st of May in 1983 and
– women who are born after 1st of May 1985.

II age group (Nordic-Baltic Vocal Contest) – the competition is open to singers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Russia:
– men who are born from 1st of January 1970 to 30th of April 1983 and
– women who are born from 1st of January 1972 to 30th of April 1985

2. For participation we ask you to send:
1. a copy of your passport or ID card
2. one quality photograph with a high resolution for a portrait photo for the booklet
3. a copy of the receipt proving that you have paid the participation fee
4. a short biography of yourself
5. your repertoire for all the rounds of the contest

3. Participation fees:
– 55 EUR I age group, when taking part both of the Klaudia Taev International Contest and the National Vocal Contest,

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS 19th OF MARCH!

NB! The participant will be officially registered only after PLMF has received all the files requested in the second clause and received the participation fee mentioned in the third clause.
The participation fee will not be refunded if the competitor will fall ill, his/her plans will change or for other such reasons.
The participation fee is personal and will not be transferred to other candidates.
