TALLINN CHAMBER OPERA – TKOP

A new breath on the Estonian opera landscape! A new creative platform for opera art!

Tallinn Chamber Opera is being established out of a desire to preserve and further develop the art of opera. It is a new and ambitious initiative that has grown out of the long-term, focused work of the PLMF Musicians’ Fund in the professional development of singers.

The goal of TKOP is to create a flexible, high-level opera platform that brings together education, creative development, and professional stage practice into a unified whole.

The activities of the initial years will include a diverse masterclass programme involving renowned vocal pedagogues, conductors, and stage directors from Estonia and abroad. These masterclasses will offer singers the opportunity to deepen their skills and receive direct, substantive feedback from mentors with international experience.

TKOP represents a logical continuation of the many years of activity of the PLMF Vocal and Opera Studio, which has focused on the professional preparation of young singers, high-level mentorship, and the provision of practical stage experience.

An important role in the development of TKOP has been played by international summer academies organised in cooperation with the Carlo Bergonzi Verdi Academy in Italy, which have brought world-class knowledge and experience to Estonia. Over the years, the summer academies have featured instruction by several renowned and world-famous opera singers,
including tenor Fabio Armiliato,
whose experience on the world’s greatest stages has provided invaluable professional support to participants.

The establishment of TKOP has also been supported by long-term cooperation with the Paolo Grassi Foundation in Italy, which organises the world-renowned opera festival Festival della Valle d’Itria and possesses extensive experience in promoting international opera culture.

Since 2020, the Summer Opera at Tallinn Town Hall has also been an important step toward the creation of TKOP.
Each year, staged and costumed excerpts performed by outstanding Estonian opera soloists have offered memorable experiences for both local audiences and international visitors to Estonia.

The aim of TKOP is to offer audiences immediate and meaningful opera experiences while providing singers with opportunities to progress from studio work to the professional stage. TKOP seeks to be a safe and supportive collaborative platform for international mentors, directors, and musicians, fostering connections across the European opera landscape. Supporting young talent and nurturing a sustainable next generation of artists are central to its mission.

Tallinn Chamber Opera is an open and vibrant creative centre where high artistic ambitions, professional development, sincere dedication, and audience-oriented live opera come together.
