Estonian baritone Atlan Karp started his vocal studies at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School with Prof. Tõnu Bachmann, who studied with Yevgeny Nesterenko. He continued his studies with Prof. Jorma Hynninen and Pekka Kähkönen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, where he obtained his Master’s degree. In Helsinki also his first roles were born – Onegin (Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin), don Alfonso (Mozart Cosi fan tutte), Vodnik (Dvořák Rusalka) Roderick (Debussy La Chute de la Maison d´Usher) etc. Atlan has studied at the St. Petersburg Young Singers Academy of the Mariinsky Theater and participated in the master classes of G. Janowitz, T. Krause, L. Gergijeva, D. Hvorostovsky, J. Obrastsova and H. Hagegård, G. Hintz. In summer 2016 he took private lessons in Italy with maestro G. Cecchele.

As a member of the ensemble of Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia, he performed most of the major baritone roles including Scarpia (Tosca), Rigoletto, Lindorf, Coppélius, Dapertutto and Miracle (Les contes d’Hoffmann), di Luna (Il trovatore), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Lescaut (Massenet Manon), Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), Jupiter (Orphée aux enfers) and Tobia Mill (La cambiale di matrimonio – this role he also sang in Guardiagrele Opera in Italy in summer 2015). Atlan also appeared as Iago at the Lithuanian National Opera in Vilnius, as Kurwenal (Wagner Tristan und Isolde), Leandro (Prokofiev Love for three oranges) and Der Führer der Prévôté (Hindemith Cardillac) at the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn and as Klingsor (Parsifal), Orestes (Elektra) and George III (P. M. Davies Eight Songs for a Mad King) at the Pärnu Opera. Atlan’s extensive concert repertoire includes Ein Deutsches Requiem by J. Brahms, Symphony No. 9 by L. van Beethoven, The Bells/Kolokola by S. Rachmaninoff, A Sea Symphony by R. Vaughan Williams and Petite Messe Solennelle by G. Rossini. His wide solo repertoire including the songs and cycles by contemporary and classical Russian, French, German, Finnish and Estonian composers.

Atlan has worked with a number of conductors, including Neeme Järvi, Nikolai Aleksejev, Eri Klas, Andres Mustonen, Arvo Volmer, Vello Pähn, Gintaras Rinkevicius, Hendrik Vestmann, Mihkel Kütson, Paul Mägi, Jüri Alperten, Lauri Sirp et al.
Atlan is a constant guest at music festivals all over Estonia, including Tallinn Winter Festival, Tallinn Chamber Music Festival, Rapla Church Music Festival, Tartu Winter Music Festival.
